Louisville, KY – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Matt Bevin criticized 30-year incumbent Mitch McConnell for voting to confirm Samantha Power as U.N. ambassador yesterday (RC #200, 08/01/13).

Power has been a vocal apologist for anti-American sentiment around the globe, writing in 2003: “We need: a historical reckoning with crimes committed, sponsored, or permitted by the United States…Instituting a doctrine of the mea culpa would enhance our credibility by showing that American decision-makers do not endorse the sins of their predecessors.” (Wall Street Journal, 06/05/13)

She has also been openly hostile to Israel, one of America’s strongest allies and most important ally in the Middle East. Writing about Israel in 2002, Power called for “alienating a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import. It may more crucially mean sacrificing or investing literally billions of dollars not in servicing Israel’s military but actually investing in the new state of Palestine.” (Washington Free Beacon, 06/05/13)

“When I am in the U.S. Senate, I will proudly join true conservatives like Sens. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Marco Rubio in opposing the confirmation of radical liberals like Samantha Power,” Bevin said. “Power has openly embraced an ideology that favors apology over conviction, weakness over strength, and an unprecedented deference to international bodies over America’s national sovereignty. How can Senator McConnell justify sending such a person to represent the United States at the U.N.?”
